MISSION STATEMENT
Our Mission
Religious Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge
Our mission is to follow Jesus Christ by living the Evangelical Counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience, becoming a living witness within the Church to the Merciful Love of God.
God has called us, in His great love, to belong to Him and to serve those most in need. We respond to that call freely and joyfully, trusting that this ministry is not our own but God's. He has guided this work from the beginning, continues to sustain it today, and will remain with us in the years to come. We are simply His humble instruments, carrying His love to every child entrusted to our care.
At Casa Amparo in Reynosa and Casa Refugio de María in Toluca,
the Religious Sisters, together with their dedicated staff and volunteers, strive to provide far more than food, clothing, and shelter. They work each day to restore hope, heal emotional wounds, and help every girl discover her God-given dignity, purpose, and future.
Meeting the Needs of Every Girl
Every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a safe, loving, and faith-filled environment. The Sisters are committed to meeting each girl's physical, emotional, educational, social, and spiritual needs by providing:
A Safe and Loving Home
Every girl is welcomed into a secure environment where caring adults provide stability, protection, trust, and a true sense of belonging.
Unconditional Love
Each child is valued as a beloved daughter of God. She is loved not for what she has done or can achieve, but simply because of who she is.
Acceptance and Human Dignity
Every girl is respected as a unique individual with her own personality, talents, dreams, and God-given gifts. She is encouraged to discover her worth and develop her full potential.
Emotional Healing and Guidance
Many of the girls arrive carrying painful experiences. Through patience, compassion, counseling, prayer, and daily encouragement, they learn to understand their emotions, build resilience, and develop healthy relationships.
Structure and Stability
Consistent daily routines provide security, promote responsibility, and create an environment where children can thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Responsibility and Independence
Age-appropriate responsibilities help each girl develop confidence, self-discipline, practical life skills, and the independence needed for a successful future.
Loving Discipline
Discipline is always guided by respect, compassion, and dignity. Through gentle correction and positive guidance, the girls learn responsibility, honesty, respect for others, and self-control.
Faith and Positive Role Models
The Sisters, staff, and volunteers strive to model Christian values through lives of compassion, forgiveness, integrity, humility, and joyful service. Children learn not only through instruction but through the witness of those who care for them.
Education and Personal Growth
Every girl is encouraged to pursue her education, develop her talents, and prepare for a productive and independent future. The Sisters believe that education opens doors to opportunity and breaks the cycle of poverty.
Play, Recreation, and Joy
Children need time to laugh, play, create friendships, and simply enjoy being children. Recreation, sports, music, art, and other activities contribute to healthy physical, emotional, and social development.
Faith and Spiritual Formation
Above all, the Sisters help each girl discover that she is deeply loved by God. Through prayer, the Sacraments, religious instruction, and daily Christian witness, the girls are encouraged to build a personal relationship with Christ that will guide them throughout their lives.
Through God's grace and the generosity of compassionate donors, these homes do more than care for children—they provide hope, healing, education, faith, and the opportunity for every girl to grow into a confident, loving, and independent young woman.
