The Diocese of Brownsville Immigrant Collection (DBIC) was established to raise funds to assist migrants and families in need on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Funds collected through DBIC are distributed to various migrant shelters and ministries in Mexico, as well as to the Diocese of Brownsville Catholic Charities, to help provide essential services and basic necessities to those they serve. These resources include food, safe shelter, clothing, medical care, and other forms of humanitarian assistance. Through the organizations and ministries it supports, DBIC seeks not only to address immediate physical needs but also to uphold the God-given dignity of every person, offering compassionate care and hope to migrants and families experiencing hardship.
Rio Grande Valley—particularly Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr and Willacy counties—has a substantial immigrant population alongside significant economic hardship. Current Census figures show that foreign-born residents account for about
26.1% of Hidalgo County, 23.2% of Cameron County, and 27.2% of Starr County
